If you've had a hankering for ice cream, head out for some cheap scoops Wednesday, May 2 at Baskin-Robbins.
Not only will you satisfy your yearning, you just could be helping the local fire department as well.
Baskin-Robbins -- in partnership with the National Fallen Firefighters' Foundation -- is sponsoring 31 cent scoop night. The event will be held from 5-10 p.m.
In addition to the bargain scoops, Baskin-Robbins will support fallen heroes by making a donation of $100,000 to the NFFF. Also, local firefighters have been invited to the event to collect donations.
Dunkin' Brands, the parent company of the ice cream giant and Dunkin' Donuts, is the major sponsor of the NFFF's Whistle Stop Tour. They provided the foundation a $250,000 grant for the effort.
The Whistle Stop Tour is now winding down.
But its impact on firefighter safety will be realized for years to come, said Ron Siarnicki, NFFF executive director.
"We've had incredible, positive feedback from everyone ... the fire service, survivors and citizens."
The tour that started in San Francisco on April 5 will end May 12 in Boston. In major cities across the country, they've relayed the importance of firefighter safety. They were joined by survivors who shared stories about their loved ones.
